A Touch of Whimsy

This week's theme for the i heart faces photo challenge is whimsical.  I think I should change my photo studio's name to whimsical!  I love props and fantasy portraits.  I sit children on giant moons and have a collection of fairy wings in the closet.  So whimsical is a perfect fit for me.  The hardest part about the theme is choosing a picture.

For my recent adventure, I decided I needed a carousel horse.  Yes, an actual giant horse.  (One that's painted - not one that eats and breathes.)  And yes, we found one and trucked it home with some help.  Thank goodness my hubby is a strong man.  Poor thing will probably be even stronger when all is said and done because he has had to drag the horse, now named Sandy courtesy of my daughter, in and out of the house several times.  And I'm just getting started.

I debated about entering a picture of my daughter "performing" acrobat moves on top of Sandy, but for some reason, I just kept coming back to this shot of the lovely Onnilee.  I was fortunate enough to get to work with her to build a modeling portfolio earlier in the week.  And inspite of the heat, we got some great shots!  She was willing to do whatever I asked - even if that meant modeling in a field during midday 100+ degree FL heat in high heels, a formal gown, and a feather mask - with a horse.  Can you imagine?

Things I have done this week..

Stared at my favorite pairs of Chucks (aka Converse low-top sneakers) sitting on my dresser unlaced like they have been for the passed month since I washed them.  Somehow the heat is preventing me from mustering up the energy to lace them up and wear them.  It's flip flop weather.

Conjured up some crazy ideas for themed photo shoots after being inspired by a few other amazing photographers.  I get these bugs in my head and won't rest until I accomplish them.  Which led me to...

Creating a disaster in my house while crafting projects to go with themed photoshoots.  The sewing machine and material have taken over the kitchen table and we've been eating off of tv trays.  There is everything from costumes to material to paint to props in every room in the house.

Made my husband and his friend go drive several hundred miles to retrieve a carousel horse for me.  I live in a tiny house with a bunch of photography junk already crammed in here and now I have to find room for this too.  LOL.

I created my first complete modeling portfolio.

I spent 2 days photographing in 100+ degree weather and have the lobster sunburn to prove it.

I updated my webpage all on my own and figured out things the tech help people didn't.

I won a photo contest with my amazing picture of Mackenzie in the field of wildflowers and got free photo editing stuff and a photo book out of it!  Woo-Hoo!!

I've been inspired over and over again this week.  I hope it keeps leading me down the right path.

Let's here it for the boys!

I wasn't sure what picture to enter this week.  I was hoping to try to get shooting specifically for this challenge, but the hubby has had to work overtime this week.  My son is not always the most cooperative anymore, and only agreed to do this in exchange for some video game time!

I am always testing out new ideas, and I wanted to test a set for an event this weekend.  I also decided to turn off all the studio lights and just try for a little bit of window light.  The end result is fantastic!!  I love how this expression is just perfectly Drew.  This is his personality in a nutshell.

Bright & Vivid

Her hair is as bright as the afternoon sun.  Her laugh and smile are completely infectious.  Her eyes are like the blue of an afternoon sky before a storm.  Her dimples are the fingerprints of God when she was hand-picked and sent to us from above.  She's full of mischief and giggles and hugs and kisses.  And her personality is the most vivid I have ever experienced, shining brighter than all the stars in the sky.
